Hub Updates - New Features & Fixes!

Wondering what's new since the latest Hub update? Or wondering how long ago something was changed? Here's where we'll keep you posted of anything new or different you'll see on the TranscribeMe WorkHub!

December 2023 Update

Bookmark list in side panel! Click to jump to audio AND text

You were all excited about the new bookmarks but immediately started asking, "How can I see all my bookmarks at once? Can I click something to jump straight to a bookmark?" Well, now you can! There's a new section in the side panel just for bookmarks. You can see each one you've placed in a file, click a bookmark to jump both the audio AND cursor to that spot, even delete a bookmark from the panel. Whether you're marking an [inaudible] to come back to, a term to research, or want to take a break and be able to quickly pick up where you left off, we hope the bookmarks and new side panel section make your QA experience that much easier!

Sessions List - New "All" Domain option!

Ever wished you could see everything in the queue without filtering each Domain one by one? Now you can!

Speakers manager - Highlight active speaker

Forget which speaker you were playing in the manager? Tech added an impossible-to-miss highlight for you. Let us know what you think!

Speakers manager - Playback options in Speaker ID / No Timestamps files!

Not being able to play your speakers seriously throwing you off in No Timestamps files? (Certain styles require speaker IDs but not timestamps.) This is now fixed! Whether your stamps are showing in the file or not, they're stored in the backend and you can play them in the Speakers manager as normal. Let us know how it goes!

Audio bar "time remaining" mode (on click)

Many of us miss the old UI Tiara banner that kindly told us how much time we had left to suffe-- uh, enjoy of our session. A bit of encouragement, saves on math, it was a beautiful thing. Tech gave it to us on the new UI! Currently it's an alternate mode so you have to click the time to see the time remaining rather than elapsed time. However, we have asked Tech to make it always visible, elapsed vs. remaining, so there is no clicking involved. What do you think of this? Please let us know your feedback so we can pass it on.

Transcription page - Save button!

Are you the type of person who likes clicking things? Does the 2-minute save on the Transcription page make you a bit nervous? Well, fret no more—now you have a Save button all to yourself! Go ahead and give it a whirl.

Review UI - Tiara's snippet suggestions now native!

I don't know about you guys, but the biggest turnoff for reviewing on the new UI was the lack of that handy little Tiara section that gave me suggested snippet segments. Meaning I had to do math… and then find timestamps… and… think… Well, REJOICE, for the suggested snippets are now native! *And* with a copy comments button (which Tech seems to have snatched from my canned response sheet from years ago, I don't know if y'all remember that). Go, go, Reviewers!!

Language lists (registration & My Profile)

An issue was fixed in our lists of languages where some languages were listed in the native language but alphabetized as though it were the English word—e.g., Deutsch (German) was listed in the G section. As requested by our Languages admin, all languages are now listed and alphabetized in English for simplicity and consistency.

Are you multilingual and comfortable working in other languages? Update your Profile information so our team can reach out to you as opportunities arise!

Hope you love the updates! As always, reach out if you have any questions.

November 2023 Update

Bookmarks!

One of the oldest and most popular requests we've had, and it's finally here! Ever wished you could mark your place in your session and quickly click to jump back to that point in the audio? Now you can! The default hotkey is Ctrl+B; change it under Hotkeys.

Inactivity time extended to 15 minutes

Got caught up in research only to find you were kicked out of your session after a measly (cruel, disappointing, heartbreaking) 5 minutes? Well, make that inactivity limit 15 minutes. Go ahead—get up, grab a snack, stretch your legs. You deserve it.

Reviewer interface

Finally, a few goodies for our hard-working reviewers! This update gave us the following improvements:

  • Clicking "Add Examples" automatically jumps your cursor to the textbox
  • The text boxes show a lot more text by default
  • You can drag the boxes to make them taller!

October 2023 Update

Combine speaker IDs (no more "This ID already exists" limitation)

It's fixed! If you have an ID, let's say S3, and you want to merge it with an ID that already exists, let's say S1: hover over the S3 row and click Replace Speaker (the person icon). Then select S1 from the dropdown, and presto! All your S3s will become S1. (If you accidentally click the wrong ID, you can Ctrl Z to undo, or use the History feature to restore your text before the speaker ID mix-up.)

Return to same Domain when submitting or rejecting a session

You asked for it, and it's hear! Tech has fixed the issue of being redirected to the General domain after submitting or rejecting a file. So if you want to be in Healthcare, you should stay in Healthcare when you submit or reject. If you're in Legal, your next file should be legal, etc. Please let us know if your experience does not match this description. Include session IDs and be as specific as possible.

Speaker dropdown in Editor sorted by ID, not alphabetically

Got a speaker names file and your speakers are in alphabetical order in the Editor's dropdown, but they're in numerical order by ID in the speaker manager? So you've got a disconnect that looks something like this:

Speaker Manager Editor Dropdown
S1 George Ali
S2 Mary Bob
S3 Bob George
S4 Ali Mary

This has been fixed so both the Speaker Manager and Editor dropdown are in numerical order by ID, regardless of the speaker names. If you're working on a regular S1, S2 file, there should be no change.

See files from ALL Domains when clicking "Choose a Session for Me"

I don't know how many of you use the "Choose a Session for Me" button (I suppose it's for those who enjoy life's little surprises… or are too impatient to surf the queue), but it used to only show you sessions from the General domain, meaning if there were no sessions under General, you'd get a big fat "No work" page, even if there was work in another domain. This has been fixed so when you click this button, you will see files from all domains, in order of their priority.

ASR solid blocks of text - Breaking up the insanity

Have you come across one (or two, or ten) ASR files where the text hasn't been broken into lines per speaker? There's a few reasons behind this, including the poor little ASR is a bit confused as to where the speaker breaks are. But anyway, we've implemented a fix that will automatically insert a new line, if the ASR hasn't, every 120 words. Please let us know if you come across any sessions after this release with huge blocks of unbroken text.

Transcriber UI - New expiration times!

Ever wonder how long you have to work on a file (a.k.a. "job")? We've always recommended no longer than an hour per audio minute, but that wasn't how it actually worked on the backend. But now it is! For transcription jobs, you get a flat 30 minutes to work on any file up to 30 seconds in duration. Above that, it's an even ratio of one hour per minute, or one minute per second. So the time frames look like this:

File Duration Maximum Work Time
0-30 seconds 30 minutes
40 seconds 40 minutes
60 seconds 60 minutes
90 seconds 90 minutes
120 seconds 120 minutes

etc.

September 2023

Custom outline width: Thick, thin, or none!

Ultra-thick outlines around every paragraph not your thing? Rejoice! You may now choose whichever border thickness strikes your fancy: thick (original), thin, or none! Click on Editor Settings (Aa) in the left floating menu, Chunk Border, and voilà:

Sessions List redirect (for when someone grabs a file right when you do)

So you finally found a file in the list that seems like it was *meant* for you. But when you click Open... you realize the feeling apparently wasn't mutual. Another QA whisked the file right out of your queue, leaving you dejected... and redirected to the Dashboard page. Sad and frustrated, you gloomily reclick the QA button to get back to the list and hopefully find another file worthy of your QA affections.

Grieve no longer! While we can't guarantee that every file you want to open will be destined for you, we've at least rerouted you back to the QA List to save you one extra gloomy click. We hope that comes as a small consolation for your loss.

"Show History" improvements

Have you checked out the New UI's Show History feature yet? It's actually pretty awesome. It highlights each change you made so you can easily decide which version of your text you might want to restore. However, it was a bit granular in that it showed you every. single. change. individually, which made it a wee bit difficult to parse through.

But never fear, changes grouped by time frame are here! You can now choose to view your changes by:

  • Individual changes: This can be pretty granular but useful if you recently made a specific change you want to check
  • 5 minutes: Another good option for recent changes but a bit less granular
  • Hours: Oh yes
  • Days: For you marathon QAers where grouping by hours just doesn't cut it - or if you want to peek at your progress day by day!

Work through lost internet connection

Flaky internet seriously throwing off your New UI groove? Work right on through it! Now when your internet cuts, you'll see a bright, impossible-to-miss banner at the top of your screen letting you know, "Hey, QA, you have no internet." But you can keep on workin' and your changes will be saved when you reconnect.

Please use these new powers responsibly, however, and if you're going 5-plus minutes and your connection still hasn't restored, might want to take a break, copy the work you've done since your last save, and wait for your connection to kick back in.

Submit hotkey disabled by default

Didn't realize there's a hotkey that will submit your session? Join the club ha... haha... But rest assured knowing it is now disabled by default so future QAs, who also don't know there is such a hotkey, will at least have to willingly enable it before they send a panicked Help Desk ticket requesting their accidentally submitted file back.

New hotkeys! Next Paragraph, Previous Paragraph

What's new this month on the TM WorkHub? Two new hotkeys! Next Paragraph and Previous Paragraph.

In the QA interface, the Tab key has always allowed users to navigate between paragraphs. Now that the TR UI mirrors the QA UI, the Tab function has caused a few unintended issues. Our solution was to create a hotkey that allows you to choose what Tab does - navigate the text or navigate elements on the page.

With the Next Paragraph and Previous Paragraph hotkeys, Tab by default navigates within the text by putting your cursor at the beginning of the next or previous paragraph ( Tab and Shift+Tab, respectively.) If you disable the hotkey, however, or change it to something else such as Ctrl+Down, Tab will work as normal and navigate the page.

Custom hotkeys: Now Alt-key compatible

Inhibited by the lack of customization abilities in the Hub's hotkeys? Tech has now added the ability to use Alt in your custom hotkeys (Ctrl was previously the only option). Give it a go and let us know what you think!

We hope these are useful solutions for everyone, and let us know if you encounter further issues! You can edit your hotkeys in Manage Hotkeys here: https://newworkhub.transcribeme.com/account/hotkeys

Style Guidelines - Top of the side panel!

Hard to find those TR / QA Style Guidelines when you open a file? They've now been moved to the top of the side panel, above Details. Can't see the side panel? Make sure you have it expanded. Click the little arrow on the right of the screen to toggle it.

Did you know? All sections in the side panel are collapsible and expandable. Click the section heading to see more or less as needed.

You asked, and we listened! Under the new "Support" item in TM's main header is a direct link to your Watercooler feed! This new menu also contains links to TM Library and Contact, which opens the purple beacon right to the "Ask" option so you can send a ticket. QA UI performance improvements

Tech continues to increase the speed of the new QA UI. Haven't ventured over to the new UI in a while because of the lag? Give it a whirl now and let us know how it goes!

June 2023

NEW - My Account page

The My Profile/Account page has been moved to the new UI! Check it out and let us know what you think.

New QA UI - Inline timestamps!

You asked for it, and here it is! You now have the option of having your timestamps inline, as on the old UI, or above. Click the Editor Settings (the Aa icon in the left menu) to pick your referred timestamp location.

QA & TR - Autoscrolling fixed

Scrolling messing with your groove? The issue of the page not scrolling when you get to the bottom has been fixed.

QA & TR - Find & Replace ~makeover~

Tech added some pretty cool features to our native Find & Replace function! Here's an overview:

  1. Match Whole words
  2. Show all instances
    • Highlight all instances in the text
    • Highlight first/current instance in the text in a different color
    • Show number of instances
  3. Previous/Next navigation
    • Ability to go to either previous or next.
    • Hotkeys: Enter for Next, Shift+Enter for Previous.
  4. NEW hotkey! Use Ctrl+Shift+F to open Find & Replace. You can change this default hotkey under Manage Hotkeys.
  5. NEW right-click menu item - Find selected: Open Find & Replace with prepopulated selected text and found instances
  6. Search on the fly (as you type)
  7. Do not scroll to the last instance of changed text on Replace All.

TR & QA - Bottom padding in Editor

Don't like the text going all the way to the bottom of your screen when you reach the end of your file? Tech added a touch of spacing at the bottom so you don't have to!

"Click to Jump to Timestamp" cursor bug fixed

You may have noticed in the last update (or maybe not!) that when you clicked to jump to a timestamp, you couldn't click anywhere you wanted within the paragraph - your cursor would automatically jump to the beginning of the paragraph, and you'd have to click again. This is now fixed, so save a click!

New QA UI - Find & Replace fixed! "Replace with" space(s) or blank

Crutch words messing up your flow? Tired of manually finding & deleting double spaces or, GASP, using an external program? Find & Replace has been fixed on the new UI, so you can now use spaces or nothing (i.e., leave it blank) in the "Replace with" field. So replace to your heart's content, and let us know if you run into any issues! Send a ticket, email us at training@transcribeme.com, or post in Watercooler so we can investigate.

New QA UI - "Set Audio to Here" fixed!

Our Tech team has fixed the "Set Audio to Here" issues on the new UI, woo! Note that your timestamps need to be accurate in order for it to work properly, i.e. if you have a file broken into chunks, your timestamps need to be in the correct chunks. If you still experience issues, please post in this Watercooler thread or send a Help Desk ticket. Include "New QA UI" in your subject line.

New QA UI - Copy-paste timestamps

Every tried to copy-paste the time on a stamp in the New UI and it… didn't work? Well, now it does! Copy-paste to your heart's content. Didn't know you could manually adjust stamps on the New UI?! Well, click that lovely "Try outu our new Session UI!" button and give it a go!

New QA UI - NEW session rejection reasons (with tooltips)

Spamming that "Other" reason when you reject a session? Well, to make it clearer to us and easier for you to indicate why you're rejecting a session, we've implemented a new rejection list! Each reason comes with a handy tooltip in case you need a reminder of what exactly each option means. Let's take a peek:

File Type: NEW - Finally! If you simply don't want to work on a particular type of file - e.g. ASR, Full Verbatim, etc. - please choose this reason!

Low-Quality Audio: Only select this reason if the audio is truly terrible, e.g. hard-to-hear speakers, poor phone connection, loud background noise, an ear-splitting ringing, etc.

Speaker Type(s): NEW - Thick accent? Interviewer and interviewee constantly talking over each other? Can't stand the speaker's voice? We have a rejection reason for that now! Go ahead and give it a click.

Audio Length: The audio is longer or shorter than you prefer.

Poor Transcription (ASR or TRs): NEW - Some of you may remember admins constantly emphasizing not to reject ASR files for "Terrible Transcription" - well, now you can! Select "Poor Transcription" if the file (whether it went through human transcribers or ASR) doesn't appeal to you because it looks like more effort than you'd care to expend to edit. Rejecting for this reason does NOT reject chunks back to the Transcriber queue, which is why you can select this for ASR files.

Number of Speakers: You're just not feelin' the multispeaker thing today (please only use for 4+ speakers).

Due Too Soon: You don't want to feel rushed.

Topic: The topic being discussed makes you queasy, emotional, or bored out of your mind.

Reject Jobs to Queue: ONLY use this reason for 2-step files (when you're editing human Transcribers), NOT QuickStep, QuickStep ASR, or Advanced ASR. If you find one or more chunks that were horribly done or incomplete, you can reject the chunk(s), then select this rejection reason and the rejected chunks will return to the Transcriber queue for someone else to give them more attention than the original TRs (hopefully…).

Other: NEW - If you select Other as the rejection reason, there is now a small mandatory text box that goes with it. So yep, if you use "Other" as a reason… you'll have to actually tell us the reason! There's a 100-character limit to this field - we're not expecting novels - but please briefly tell us why you're rejecting the session if the other reasons don't seem to fit.
